The event hosts the British Trail Running Championships Ultra Distance.

Held under UK Athletics Rules for Competition. Permit Number 5281 issued by the TRA.

After ten years of service to the Ridgeway Challenge as Race Director, Tim has handed over the guardianship of the race to James Elson and Nina Smith from 2023 onwards. The R86 has long established itself as one of the classic British ultra distance challenges, on one of our most beloved National Trails. At its core is that it is a not for profit event, with a strong community around it. James and Nina, having between them run the event numerous times, share Tim’s vision of ensuring the event stays true to those core values. They bring with them experience of having race-directed other UK trail races and look forward to welcoming runners in 2023 and the future. Thank you to Tim for all his work in putting the event on year after year, much of which goes on behind the scenes – we are immensely grateful for his passion and commitment to the event.
